Visit to the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve

On November 26 and 27, 2024, as part of the APVV 20-0108 Implementation of the 2030 Agenda through biosphere reserves project, a working visit to the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve took place.

On November 27, 2024, a meeting was held with representatives of the Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve, specifically with Ing. Jan Vybíral, director of the company / member emeritus of the Czech National Committee of the MAB Program and Ing. Peter Čup, deputy director / member of the International Advisory Committee of the ICA for Biosphere Reserves at UNESCO in Paris. The Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve is the youngest biosphere reserve in the Czech Republic, it was declared in 2003 and has a unique establishment in the form of a Public Benefit Company OPS, where the founders were Lesy ČR s. p., MND a. s., MŽP ČR, Okresná Ľubochská kompartika Břeclav and the Czech Union of Nature Conservation, later the MŽP ČR and the Czech Union of Nature Conservation stepped down from the management of the BR. Currently, BR Dolní Morava has two core employees and one project manager in the area of ​​Internationally Important Forests. BR is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of the following representatives: Lesy ČR, s. p., Mendel University in Brno, Voluntary Association of Municipalities LVA, District Chamber of Commerce Břeclav, Podluží Region, Voluntary Association of Municipalities, MND a. s., District Chamber of Agriculture Břeclav, Voluntary Association of Municipalities Mikulovsko. Another body is the Supervisory Board. BR management is based on the equal participation of local governments, business entities, non-profit organizations, state administration and the scientific community.

Representatives of BR Dolní Morava informed about the problems of the biosphere reserve, about the weak state support and problems in connection with the periodic assessment, which also includes the expansion of the biosphere reserve to other sites Břeclav and Mikulov, as well as about successful projects. At the meeting, representatives of SV MAB and BR Poľana also presented current problems and proposed close cooperation between the two biosphere reserves. This was followed by a tour of the Lednice-Valtice area and a visit to Mikulov.
